Smith Marshall Adventure

I'm sure there will be many more Smith & Marshall adventures to come. This weekend's adventure took us to SNOWY Lake Tahoe. Saturday morning we loaded up the car and were off. Our first signs of snow came about 15 minutes outside of Auburn and there was a blanket of snow at Gold Run, elevation 3000ft.
After laboring along in chain control traffic we got a tip that taking a frontage road up to Alta would get us around all the traffic and shave a couple hours off our journey. There was no need for chains on the highway - the road was clear for the most part and though partly cloudy, there was no snow in sight.

Brieanne and I made the boys (Josh, Brandon & Brandon's brother Mark) a valentine's dinner of stuffed pasta shells & salad (thank you Giada de Laurentis for the recipe). Sunday morning the guys headed off to ski while Brieanne, Claire and I hung out at the cabin and enjoyed the snowy snowy day.

We decorated cupcakes...see below. Yes those are penguin shaped cupcakes hanging out in the snow outside the kitchen window.

Monday morning we cleaned, packed up and headed out, attempting to get ahead of the big storm that was supposed to roll in Saturday afternoon. We were too slow.

Claire being a really good sport about the slow going on the road. It was snowy snowy snowy!
